I can't decide if I like it or not. I know that's probably heresy, but I'm reserving judgement until I get time to read the next book. It may be a little too melodramatic for me, I'm not sure. But, I'll give the next one a try, since everyone on the planet is so enamored of them. Meghan keeps asking me if I'm going to let her read them. Any thoughts? She's a VERY young 11. Like 11 going on about 9. But she reads on an 8th grade level. Her favorite genre is fantasy, she loved Eragon, Artemus Fowl, Inkheart... so she's pretty sure she would like this.
Ok, gotta run. My life is crazy these days. I keep thinking that after I finish this "big thing" (whatever it is this week), then things will calm down. No such luck so far.
On another note...how many of you have kids with blogs? I'm thinking about letting Meg have one just to keep in touch with her cousins or Aunts/Uncles. Just wondering how many contacts she'd have out there....

Too bad you didn't enjoy the book. Maybe you'll like #2.
If you want my opinion, I wouldn't let Megan read the books. The 3rd and 4th one are highly sexual. But I read them!
My 3 oldest kids have blogs by the way.
I would NOT let her read the Twilight series until she's at least 15. It's a super easy read for sure, but it's the maturity level i think that's needed. A lot of "high school" emotions. Nothing scandalous, but emotionally mature to say the least.. and it's progresses as you go from Book 1 to Book 4. Just my thoughts on that.
That was kind of my thoughts on the whole thing...Thanks for some validation, I can tell her it's not just her silly mom that thinks she shouldn't read them just yet. :0)
As much as I like Twilight, I wouldn't let her read them. Sadly, I know the books aren't for everyone and if you didn't thoroughly enjoy the first one, you might not really enjoy the others as much. As much as I love the first book, the 3rd was my favorite.
I couldn't imagine her being interested in them anyways, since she's 11 going on 9.
Keep reading, though. It's worth it to get to the third and forth books. Maybe all the hype made your expectations high?
I'm sorry you didn't enjoy the 1st one so much. I actually read the 1st in the least amount of time I loved it soooo much. I concur with the previous comments I would not have Meghan read it just yet. However, a blog is a great idea.
I just love it when I hear that someone is still behind me reading this series. Thanks.
I simply don't read. :-)
I have so little time for leisure reading. Besides, if it's any good it will be made into a movie. I stick to things shorter in length, i.e. magazine articles, reader's digest, ensign, etc.
I am a yeah on the blog, however, I'd set it to private so the viewers are "invited" to read them and given permission. That way, you can control who is viewing your daughter's life and it gives her the chance to be less cautious about what information she leaks about herself in the content, i.e. what school she goes to, who her best friends are, her address, etc.
I'm (Finally!) reading it now.. I'll let you know what I think when I'm done (probably 6 months from now, with my lack of available reading time..)
I'm no expert, but I haven't even made it through the first Twilight book, but definitely wouldn't let my 10 year-old read it. Not that it's totally trash, but just not age appropriate.
Kennedy and Sarah both have blogs. I set them to private though, so if you give me an email address (does Meg have one?) I can add you guys. That would be a fun way for them to keep in touch.
Amanda, what are you talking about! Highly sexual? Not enough, I say. Either way, she's too young.
Bailey has a blog, and would love to keep in touch with Megan. (He can't read the books either, they can whine about it together)
